The College of Music, Mahidol University proudly celebrates a historic milestone as the 37th International Society for Music Education (ISME) World Conference concluded in Montréal, Canada, with the official ISME Flag Handover Ceremony, marking Thailand as the next host of the 38th ISME World Conference, to be held 9–14 July 2028 at the College of Music, Mahidol University.
During the closing ceremony, Prof. Jody Kerchner, President of ISME, officially handed over the ISME flag to the host institution. Representing the College of Music, Dr. Pamonrpan Komolpamorn, Assistant Dean for International Affairs, delivered a welcome address, reaffirming the readiness of both the College and Thailand to welcome music educators, researchers, and professionals from around the world in 2028.
The ceremony also showcased the beauty of Thai culture through a captivating Ranad Ek solo performance by Ajarn Paron Yuenyong, accompanied by the Thai Dance Troupe of Ottawa, directed by Ms. Sukitja Whitcomb, leaving a lasting impression on the international audience.
The College extends its sincere appreciation to the Royal Thai Embassy in Ottawa, especially H.E. Mr. Darm Boontham, Ambassador of Thailand to Canada, and Mrs. Anthika Boontham, for their warm hospitality and generous support throughout the College delegation’s visit.
Preparations for this historic hosting opportunity were led by the College’s Music Education team, including Asst. Prof. Dr. Ni-on Tayrattanachai, Chair of the Music Education Department, Asst. Prof. Dr. Nantida Chandransu (RILCA), and Ajarn Nutteraya Laosaichuea, who participated in the conference to strengthen international collaborations and lay the foundation for the 2028 event.
Looking ahead, the College of Music is committed to working closely with universities, scholars, and music educators across Thailand and around the world to deliver an inspiring and impactful global conference that showcases Thailand’s excellence in music education and strengthens international collaboration for the future.
