Career Highlights
Naween Noppakun is an award-winning Thai filmmaker and multidisciplinary artist whose work explores memory, identity, and post-human intimacy through speculative and socio-political lenses. Across just three short films, he has garnered over 70 international festival selections and multiple awards. His latest short, Crazy Lotus, won the Tiger Short Award at IFFR 2024 and earned further accolades from Kaohsiung Film Festival, Zubroffka, Film Maudit 2.0, and Prague Shorts’ Labo Competition. His earlier short, We Love Me, was awarded First Prize at FIVA Buenos Aires, the Jury Prize at the Paris Festival for Different and Experimental Cinema, and the Audience Award at Hamburg International Short Film Festival.
Before turning to film, Naween was the guitarist and co-founder of “Sweet Mullet” a renowned Thai rock band signed to GMM Grammy, the country’s largest record label, whose early-2000s hit single became a national sensation. This background in live performance and sound continues to shape his innovative use of rhythm, glitch, and sonic architecture in cinema.
His hybrid aesthetic draws from sound and media art to craft emotionally surreal, politically charged futurist narratives. He is currently developing his debut feature film.
