Career Highlights
Nachaya Natchanawakul joined as the full-time faculty of College of Music, Mahidol University since 2016, where she serves as the chair of the Ph.D. program and Department Chai of Thai and Oriental Music Division. She teaches courses in Thai Music Theory, Thai Music history, Introduction to Music Research, and Performance Pedagogy. Before this she worked for 18 years at Naresuan University, Phitsanulok, Thailand.
Nachaya received her Ph.D. in Musicology from College of Music, Mahidol University and received a Ph.D. Scholarship funded by the Commission on Higher Education, Ministry of Education. Her dissertation focused on Western music in Siam: the development between A.C.1841 – 1941. In 2012 her dissertation was recognized with an award from the Graduate School, Mahidol University.
Nachaya’s research, which covers varied topics such as Learning process for conservation and development of Mangkhala performance in the lower northern part of Thailand (Research Funded from The Thailand Research Fund.), The Development and Principle of“ Ketduriyakom” Thai String Assembled Piano (Research Funded from Mahidol University) , Thainess in Thai Contemporary Music (Research Funded from The Thailand Research Fund)
She received scholarship; 2005 Indonesian Arts And Culture Scholarship from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Indonesia (at Bandung for 3 months in Sundanese Music and Dance program), 2009 Thai Music Workshop and Music Symposium cooperative project of Mahidol University, Thailand and the Institute für Musikwissenschaft der Hochschule für Musik Franz Liszt Weimar and University of Jena at Weimar, Germany,2019 Global Mobility Erasmus Plus Teacher Exchange 2017-2019 by University of Agder, Kristiansand, Norway and 2020 Global-VU TIPs Initiative Workshops “At the Borders of Art and Power: Western Classical Music in the Global Marketplace.”, Blair School of Music.
