War, love, dissonance, and exile — Cooper Wright presents an evening of music exploring the calm and chaos of the turbulent 20th century
Joined by Eri Nakagawa, Hiroshi Matsushima, Kittima Molee, and Rasikamon Siyapong, this recital brings together repertoire deeply rooted in human history and personal narrative:
• Marina Dranishnikova – Poème: Her only known composition, written for her secret lover, the principal oboist of the Leningrad Philharmonic Orchestra.
• André Previn: Repertoire reflecting the journey of a composer who fled Germany due to persecution before rebuilding his life and career in the United States.
• Jean-Michel Damase – Trio: A work exploring the contrast between striking dissonance and neo-classical melodic elegance.
• Benjamin Britten – Temporal Variations: Written between the World Wars as a statement against conflict, carrying a thematic motif echoing the single word, “Enough!”
