YAMP Profile
Community Located just outside the capital Bangkok, the Young Artist Music Programme is part of the College of Music, Mahidol University. There are currently around 1300 students enrolled in the College of Music (YAMP-Pre-College 300 with Undergraduate, Masters and Doctorate making up the remainder). the student body is predominantly Thai, although several families are of dual nationality. In November 2016 YAMP moved into its own 9 storey special music building, which will be a full-time boarding programme. With a new international curriculum and in our new building 2017/18 academic year will see our first full-time international students.
School The Young Artist Music Programme covers the last three years of high School. In Thailand this is Mathayom 4-6,equivalent to USA Grades 10-12 and UK Years 11-13. The Pre-College programme began in June 2000 graduating its first senior class in the spring 2003. The Young Artist Music Programme is fully accredited in Thailand and students receive a High School leaving certificate. The academic year runs from June through to March.
Curriculum The academic programme covers about 30% general education, which includes English Language and Literature, Thai Language, Maths, Social Studies, Science, Physical Education. Music studies covers 70% of the curriculum and includes two hours of one to one private study with the major instrument teacher; an hour of small ensemble and four hours of large ensemble. Music theory and aural skills are studied every semester and keyboard studies take up four semesters.
