Dr. Sezen Özeke is a Professor at Bursa Uludağ University in Türkiye, where she holds a position within the Music Education Department, specializing in music education methodologies. Her research interests encompass various aspects of music education, including music teacher training, comparative and cultural studies, Kodaly and Orff pedagogy, and community music education.
Dr. Özeke earned her Master’s and Doctoral degrees in Music Education from Arizona State University in the USA. She has presented research papers and conducted workshops at numerous conferences and teacher training institutions across Europe, Asia, and the USA.
Beyond her academic pursuits, Dr. Özeke has held leadership positions. Notably, she served as the Head of the Fine Arts Education Department at Bursa Uludağ University from 2017 to 2022. In addition, from 2009 to 2015, she served as the LLP/Erasmus Assistant Institutional Coordinator and International Relations Coordinator, overseeing the university’s Erasmus program.
Dr. Özeke has actively contributed to various EU projects, collaborating closely with teachers in the field of teacher education across Europe. She has been serving as the Turkish National Coordinator for the European Jazz School Project, recruiting students for jazz workshops in Europe. Additionally, she has worked as an academic adviser for the national curriculum development project working towards developing the high school music curriculum (grades 9-12) in Türkiye. She has also co-coordinated various exchange projects facilitating student exchanges between Germany and Türkiye, fostering educational and cultural exchange opportunities.
Outside her academic endeavors, Dr. Özeke is an active member of ENVERÇEVKO (Energy Efficiency and Environment Protection Association) and engages in various voluntary projects, including Cycle Friendly Employer (CFE), EuroVelo, and Sports Without Waste (SWW), aiming to raise awareness for sustainability and social well-being.
In 2022-2023, Dr. Özeke served as a Visiting Professor at Mahidol University College of Music in Thailand. Currently, alongside her role at Bursa Uludağ University, she also holds a position as a board member of the European Association for Music in Schools (EAS).
