Sompop Puengpreeda is Lecturer of Trumpet at Mahidol University College of Music, where he has taught since 1996. He teaches Applied Trumpet, Trumpet literature and pedagogy, Brass Orchestral and Chamber literature, Trumpet Ensemble, Trumpet Orchestral Excerpts, Studio Classes, Small ensemble and serves as teacher\/mentor for the College of Music\u2019s Young Artists Program (YAMP). He was the Head of Music Entertainment Department in 2003 \u2013 2005 and MSMU Alumni president 2014 \u2013 2017.<\/p>\n
Puengpreeda was trumpet player in the Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra. Prior to joining the TPO in 2005-2015, he was a trumpet and piano player of the Bangkok Symphony Orchestra from 1987-2003.<\/p>\n
Equally comfortable performing jazz and commercial music, he has performed with well known groups such as Chalermraj Big Band, Kasikorn Band, the Siam Kolkarn Big Band, Thai Youth Orchestra, Ibycus Chamber Orchestra, Bangkok International Combined Orchestra, Charoenkrung Brass Ensemble, Maitai Chamber Orchestra, Mahidol Brass Band, BrassArts Bangkok, CU Band, Un-title Jazz Band, Kenny ND Gang Band and Khokae Band of 101. He is also in demand as a jazz-pop pianist, and performs regularly for a variety of functions and events.<\/p>\n
Since 2008, Sompop became conductor of the Bangkok Milal Missionary Choir, whom he has conducted and performed with in many provinces in Thailand and many countries around the world. Highlight performance have included a concert in 2003, 2015 and 2017 at New York\u2019s famous Carnegie Hall.
\nPuengpreeda received a Bachelor in Music Education from Chulalongkorn University, and Master of Arts in Solo Performance at Mahidol University where he studies with Dr. Joseph Bowman. Previous teachers have included Wisit Jitrangsan, Yuth Punsa-ard, Manu Hothai and Henry Nowak.<\/p>\n
