Airs from Scotland and Ireland are well-known throughout the world for the unique moods they can invoke. Echoes of the bagpipes, the zesty jigs and reels, the tales of lost loves, all of these will be exhibited in our concert “Celtic Images”.
The concert will start with “Tam O’Shanter”, a programmatic piece that narrates Robert Burn’s poem of the same title. Following are a pair of beautifully arranged “Danny Boy” and “Loch Lomond”, and a suite based on Celtic folk songs by Japanese composer Tomohiro Tatebe.
After intermission will be a mash-up of two Irish reels “Temple Hill” and “Molly on the Shore” by the folksong master Percy Grainger. Ending the concert will be a work based on Scottish dance tunes by Malcolm Arnold, and Sousa’s rarely-heard march that employs the all-time favourite tune “Auld Lang Syne”.
Come and experience various renderings of Celtic melodies at our concert!
