Boston Brass Concert

The College of Music, Mahidol University, in collaboration with Yamaha Band and Orchestra, Team Thailand, were excited to welcome the world-renowned “Boston Brass” to the College from 19-20 May, 2018. The concert on 20 May was performed in front of a large audience at Prince Mahidol Hall and featured many high energy works that prompted huge cheers from the audience. One of the biggest ovations during the concert was the Boston Brass invited Mr. Nitiphum Bamrungbanthum, a 4th year trumpet student in the Bachelor program, to the stage to join Boston Brass in a performance of “The Little Matador”.

The Boston Brass also taught two clinics for students. The class on 19 May was given for College of Music students, and featured coaching of the “Facebrass” Mahidol student brass quintet and discussion of “The Business of Music”. The clinic on 20 May was in Prince Mahidol Hall and drew over 800 young brass players. The members of the Boston Brass worked with Mahidol student brass groups VOrleans and Zero Brass, giving them guidance and suggestions. They also led the huge audience in exercises designed to improve breathing for wind and brass players. The clinic surprise was that recently retired Boston Brass tubist, who is one of the most famous brass teachers in the world, joined the class via internet to share and encourage all those in attendance.

This was Boston Brass’ 4th visit to the College of Music, and their last was in 2015. Each visit has been bigger and better than ever, and the Boston Brass’ message of musical performance and teaching excellence was well received by all who participated.
