Career Highlight

Dag Schantz, bassobaritono, was born in Stockholm, and began his studies at the Ölo Opera school from 1982-84, and Opera-studio 67 of Stockholm in 1984-87. From 1987-91 continued studying at the State Opera school of Stockholm. Beside that he also had class studies with Nicolai Gedda, Ingvar Wixell, and Birgit Nilsson. Furthermore, he has studied in Italy for many years with Ferruccio Tagliavini, Antonio Tonini, and Vincente La Ferla.

His roles have been in the following Operas, Operettas, and Musical: La serva padrona (Pergolesi), Le nozze di Figaro, Don Giovanni, Così fan tutte, Die Zauberflöte (Mozart), Proserpin (Kraus), Der Freischütz (Weber), La scala di seta, Semiramide, La Cenerentola (Rossini), I Capuleti e i Montecchi, Adelson e Salvini (Bellini), Don Pasquale, L’Elisir d’amore (Donizetti), Rigoletto, La Traviata, Il Trovatore (Verdi), Die Lustigen Weiber von Windsor (Nicolai), Onegin (Tjajkovskij), Les Brigands, Les Contes Hoffman, Le Fifre Enchanté (Offenbach), Mefistofele (Boito), Die Fledermaus (J. Strauss), La Bohème, Tosca (Puccini), Chérubin (Massenet), La commedia sul ponte /Die Komödie auf der Brücke (Martinů), Christmas Rose (F. He has been in several theatres in Europe, Russia, China, and Thailand with more than 3,000 performances and for 30 years been teaching singing and drama. He has given masterclasses and teaching of how to use the voice in acting and interpretation of roles in Italy, and in Sweden at the State Opera School and musical at the Sweden Academy of Ballet. He has done several opera and romance programs for the Swedish Television and Radio plus directing at several theatres, operas and musicals. He was asked to direct a new gala performance for His Royal Majesty of Sweden, celebrating his birthday of 70th year. His language efficiencies are: Italian, English, French, German, Danish, Norwegian, and Swedish.

Currently, he is a voice professor in Voice and Musical Theatre Department, College of Music, Mahidol University in Salaya, Thailand. He has been directing five performances and coaching his studio in the concert serial of “Tutti Frutti dell’Opera” with the work of Richard Strauss, Puccini, Mozart, Wagner, Verdi, Gershwin, and beside that, he has directed a complete Così fan tutte and Gianni Schicchi.
