Solo Experimental Musical Play

The audience will enter the world of mystique intertwined with Carpenters’ greatest songs, as they witness an actress weaves and reveals the tapestry of intimate stories. With favorite songs, dance, movements, and voices, Superstar explores a rich and profound fusion of musical and performance art.

August 4, 2015: Crossing the Boundary ~Experiment of the Musical Theatre Repertoires~ A407

Why do we limit the songs we could sing only based on our genders? With this provocative question that was posed by a student in a casual conversation, students from Music Theatre Department will take risks and experiment with the cross-gender casting of popular musical theatre repertoires in a concert style, directed by Haruna Tsuchiya. Come witness the brave and graceful souls soar onstage!

Company is a musical comedy written in the 1970’s by Stephen Sondheim who is the father of Contemporary Musical Theatre and George Furth. Company is the first concept musical, meaning the songs are in no chronological order. The concept musical is an important musical theatre genre for our students to tackle.Company is the winner of 7 TONY Awards including Best Musical, Best Score, Best Lyrics and Best Book.
Synopsis: On the night of his 35th birthday, confirmed bachelor Robert contemplates his unmarried state. Over the course of a series of dinners, drinks, and even a wedding, his friends -- " those good and crazy people [his] married friends" -- explain the pro's and con's of taking on a spouse. The habitually single Robert is forced to question his adamant retention of bachelorhood during a hilarious array of interactions. All performances will be performed with LIVE orchestra in English with Thai subtitles.

February 18, 2015: Scarlett,~First rendition of the experiment~, The Glass House (in front of MACM)

What is in The Glass House? This first rendition of a theatrical solo-performance piece devised by Haruna Tsuchiya takes place at The Glass House located in front of the MACM. The piece is in its evolving process, and this is the first public sharing of the work. She invites you to join the night of mysterious journey, transcending the daily landscapes into a dream-like space.

Inspired by works of master composers in the 19th century, four artists with very different backgrounds will join their artistic disciplines: solo piano, piano ensemble, and theatrical performance elements, and ways of expressing themselves. This is going to be an exciting night of experiments, traveling beyond time and space.
