Performance Opportunities

PERFORMING IN PRODUCTIONS is an essential part of the Musical Theatre training program, an opportunity to put into practice what students have learned in the classrooms, dance studios and practice rooms. The selection of repertoire plays an important educational role in our training allowing students to be exposed to many styles of music theatre during their residency at Mahidol University. Each year the Musical Theatre program at Mahidol University presents a season of musicals, concerts, recitals and workshops on and off campus. Students enrolled in the music theatre program perform in a fully-staged musical with orchestra. In addition, a classic Broadway musical is presented in concert.  Students also participate in the Stars of Tomorrow project, a concert of Broadway music that tours around Thailand.  Senior showcases and student recitals requiring additional performers use students enrolled in our program.

It is our mission to give opportunities to the students to expose them to  a variety of music theatre singing, acting and dancing styles.  Our seasons include traditional and contemporary.  Dance styles encompass ballet, jazz, modern and tap. Majors are required to audition for all productions and all students, regardless of program of study, may be cast. Many of our productions include sets, costumes, lighting, sound and make-up.

During the 2013-2014 season, our Music Theatre program will produce a concert version of South Pacific, Broadway and Beyond to highlight our program’s new faculty, fully-staged production of Jekyll and Hyde, Stars of Tomorrow in Concert, Senior Showcases and return to Chiangmai for performances of Stars of Tomorrow in Concert, The Singing Actor Workshop Series and a full production of a Thai musical “Eng and Chang the musical”
