Please be informed that, due to the Mahidol University Graduation preparations, the Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra Concert, “MAESTRO STRAVINSKY” on September 4-5, 2015 will temporarily move to Music Auditorium (MACM) at College of Music, Mahidol University.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
The Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra (TPO), under the baton of principal conductor Claude Villaret of Switzerland, presents Stravinsky’s astonishingly inventive work Petrouchka, a Rachmaninoff piano concerto, featuring Thai pianist Poom Prommachart, as well as the premiere of a new work, Brilliance and Beauty, by our composer in residence, Dr. Thomas Hyuk Cha.
The first piece of the concert is Brilliance and Beauty, a beautiful orchestral work by Thomas Hyuk Cha (World Premiere). This orchestral piece is full of colorful harmonies and melodies expressing the beauty of the nature including powerful and positive rhythms and dynamics.
The Thai pianist Poom Prommachart, who is regarded as one of the most accomplished Thai pianist today, will perform Sergei Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No.3 in D minor, op.30. The piece has the reputation of being one of the most technically challenging piano concertos in the standard classical repertoire.
Poom Prommachart graduated from the Royal College of Music (RCM), London where he earned the prestigious International Artist Diploma in 2014 and a Master’s Degree in Performance (Distinction) in 2013, which received an exceptional high distinction for both solo piano and chamber music. Recently, he was awarded the most prestigious Tagore Gold Medal for his great contribution to RCM, which presented to him by HRH The Prince of Wales on May 2014. In addition, he has recently recorded a debut solo CD for Champs Hill Records and has also performed in many world-famous concert halls throughout Europe, Asia and Australia and also worked with many leading Orchestras.
The last piece of the program of the concert is Petrouchka by Igor Stravinsky. He composed the music during the winter of 1910 for Ballets. It was premiered in Paris in June 1911 under conductor Pierre Monteux. The piece is regarded as one of his most creative orchestral works and it will be sure to delight in this TPO concert!
