The baton of Spanish – American conductor José-Luis Novo and Cuban born Tania León will lead the Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra on Saturday, July 11, 2015 at 4 pm in Prince Mahidol Hall as the Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra continues its collaboration with the Thailand International Composition Festival. This concert will feature orchestral works and concerti of composers Tania León, Mathew Rosenblum, Narong Prangcharoen and Zhou Long and soloists Kenneth Coon (saxophone), Lisa Pegher (percussion), Tapalin Charoensook (cello) and Christopher Janwong McKiggan (piano).

The concert will begin with Horizons (1999) composed and conducted by Tania León. The Cuban-born Tania León is a vital new music personality, highly regarded as a composer and conductor whose compositions are, “Aboundingly earthy, rhythmic, and embellished by deeply moving nostalgia, [standing] at the crossroads of every musical emotion.”
Double Concerto (2010) for Baritone Saxophone, Percussion, and Orchestra by Mathew Rosenblum. Mathew Rosenblum’s music is filled with diverse musical elements derived from classical, jazz, rock, and world music traditions. Using a variety of tuning systems, his work does not live within traditional boundaries, creating a compellingly fresh landscape.
Thai composer and founder of the Thailand International Composition festival, Narong Prangcharoen’s Cello Concerto Far from Home will follow. Mr. Prangcharoen is currently recognized as one of Asia’s leading contemporary composers – Incorporating a love of sound into an atmospheric tapestry of orchestration, this piece will be sure to delight.
Zhou Long’s piano concerto Postures will close the program. Zhou Long is internationally recognized for creating a unique body of music that brings together the aesthetic concepts and musical elements of East and West.
