Maestro Scarano’s imaginative interpretations of Stravinsky can take one’s breath away: here he brings his detailed eye to the iconoclastic Symphony in Three Movements, a piece that exudes the drama and anxiety of the Second World War period. Need a break from all that? Look no further than Bernstein’s uproarious West Side Story. The principal clarinetist of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Calogero Palermo, makes a return visit to play the captivating Brahms Clarinet Sonata No. 1 in a fascinating arrangement by Luciano Berio.

The music of conductor, pianist and composer Leonard Bernstein is an exciting combination of classical, jazz, and popular song traditions. In West Side Story, the American genius also managed to provide audiences with the spirit of Latin sounds. Orchestral music doesn’t get more exciting than the symphonic dances from the musical beloved by all nations: West Side Story.
Dance was a preoccupation of the great 20th century master Igor Stravinsky – his rhythmic Symphony in Three Movements moves to a slightly darker beat than Bernstein’s but manages to exudes the drama and anxiety of the Second World War period.
Principal clarinetist of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, one of the world’s great symphonic ensembles, Colagero Palermo makes a return visit to play the captivating Brahms Clarinet Sonata in a fascinating arrangement by Luciano Berio.
